143 - Lifetime Value of A Patient


What does the lifetime value of a patient mean? Generally speaking, the lifetime value of a patient is the total amount of money that a patient spends with your podiatry business over the relationship life.

It’s a future prediction and calculation of revenue based on return visits, services utilised and referrals obtain from that patient.

What can podiatrists learn from the fast-food industry? It seems a lot.

About 30 years ago, McDonald's employed a new strategy to consistently offer every customer an add-on to each burger item on their menu. There was no customer assessment or thought process as to would the customer say yes or no, or can they afford the add-on, or even if they wanted it, instead, DO YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT became the mantra for every McDonald’s employee taking an order.

136 - Podiatry TRADEMARKS with Donna Patane


If you own a podiatry business and if you trade under a business name, you need to protect it with a trademark before someone else takes it. Please don't say I did not warn you.  

Protecting your business name is essential, which is why I wanted to have Donna Patane on the podcast. Donna is a lawyer and registered Trademarks Attorney and an expert in Intellectual Property and all things business law in the digital age.

  • Four different registration types:
    • Domains - first in best dressed. 
    • Company Names
    • Business Names - are there to protect the consumer, not the business owner. 
    • Trademarks - This is the penthouse and gives you exclusive rights.

  • Searching via ATMOS Australia or internationally with WIPO Global Brand Database.
  • Understanding the terms:
    • Substantially Identical
    • Deceptively Similar

  • Social media law and protection in the digital world?
  • Using the Way Back Machine website to look at old websites
  • Copywrite law (photographs and written content)
