027 - Ben Boshell The Heel Pain Expert


Ben Boshell is from the UK and works at Hatt Health & Movement Clinic, and today we talk about finding your passion within the podiatry profession and that it's okay if your thinking changes over time.
 
Initially, Ben Boshell was going to be a Podiatric Surgeon, there was no question about this, but after completing his Masters in Podiatric Surgery, he decided to head down a different path.

026 - Johan Steenkamp Working Around The World


Johan Steenkamp grew up in Mozambique and South Africa and after finishing high school spent two years travelling through the UK & Europe. He eventually went back to South Africa and studied engineering & physics before commencing his podiatry degree.

After graduating in 2010, Johan's first podiatry job was in Singapore, followed by Malaysia, Sydney and for the last four years Perth, where he is now very much settled with his wife and 9-month old daughter.

On this episode we discuss:

  • Graduating from podiatry and why his first job was in a foreign country and not South Africa. 
  • Feeling isolated and why it is essential to attend CPD events in person. 
  • Balancing work in private practice while maintaining the security of part-time employment in a hospital in Perth.
  • Taking calculated risks and letting the numbers help you make decisions. 
  • What he learnt most setting up his practice.
    • It's easier to start and cost less than expected
    • He made money much quicker and covered his outgoings way ahead of schedule. 
    • Working privately and in the public system can be difficult in regards to family time, but it's only temporary. Writing a chapter in The Diabetic Foot published by World Scientific.

025: Steph Cooper The Comical Anatomist


Steph Cooper is from Western Australia and she is using the knowledge gained from her podiatry degree to help educate future health professionals in a fun and engaging way. Her website The Comical Anatomist is making anatomy fun through whimsical illustrations caricaturing the human body.

Steph always enjoyed art at school and enjoyed drawing for fun, but her new passion was ignited after attending a Pixar workshop.

Laura Williams is from East Sussex, UK and runs her podiatry business from S57 Health & Wellbeing Clinic. She is also the author of Grandpa, Diet & Diabetes, and already has books two, three and four all lined up.
